MATHEMATICS EDUCATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ETHNOMATHEMATICS
ABSTRACT
Ethnomathematics is a stream of mathematical knowledge to maintain and rescue the culture of peoples (D’Ambrosio, 2001). This paper considers the teaching of mathematics from the perspective of the ethnomathematic. For the achievement of the goals, a descriptive research was done, by means of a documentary analysis, whose basic purpose consisted of realizing a review of the interpretation of the terms mathematics, education and ethnomathematic. On the one hand mathematics education has to follow the changes of the information technology to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow, and to proceed to the extensive education. On the other hand it must include forms of teaching and proper problems of the cultural group that might help students in the learning of mathematics. In order to maintain students’ identity, it is recommended to show in class some examples of the traditional culture, which will enrich their experience in daily life, and will facilitate their learning in class.
